Statement of Intent


Product 1

My magazine is called 'FOREFRONT' and targets a culturally sophisticated, 16-25 class AB target audience. The first cover will have a mid-shot of a man who seems to be powerful. He will be wearing a suit and will be looking directly at the camera with a straight face which will represent the sophisticated tone of my magazine. The magazine will be a monthly magazine rounding up all of the latest and most relevant stories of the month. My aim for the design of the magazine is to give the serious images a 'playful' effect like some of the Newsweek magazine front covers. I aim to keep my strict colour scheme of; Red, white and black for the front covers to match the colours of the masthead. The man on the front cover will be a business owner which will tie in to my mainly business inspired magazine. On the cover there will be three pieces if text all in the same font.
The second cover will have a similar design to the first however this time the main image will be of a female rather than a male. The female on the cover will be a journalist writing down on a notepad and sitting on a stool/chair. Once again I will edit the photograph to give it a 'playful' and 'fun' tone. I also intend to stick to the same colour scheme of; red, white and black, and plan to keep the layout of the front cover very similar to that on the first cover, having one main photograph and three main pieces of text around it, one being the headline, and the other two being a brief overview on the story and a quote. I will incorporate a border around the front cover of the magazine like how Forbes magazine has a slim border on all of its covers.
For the contents pages I take inspiration mainly from Forbes Magazine which has three main images and eight stories with the page number beside it. For my contents page I aim to stick closely to the colour scheme with once again, only using; red, white and black, however the pictures will be in colour. I aim for the page colour to be white, the text to be black and any details or lines in red.

Product 2

For the website I aim to keep the layout simplistic but yet still sophisticated as well as easy to navigate. Like the magazines, I plan on using the colour scheme of red, white and black. The masthead logo for the website is at the top of the page and central, to its left, there are social media links for sites such as; Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest. To the left of the masthead, there is a sign in bar where members/subscribers to the magazine can sign in to view stories they have saved. The menu task bar is situated just below the masthead and has five main destinations; Home, Sport, Entertainment, Politics and Store (where previous issues of the magazine can be purchased'. The repetitive colour scheme and use of the same logo shows synergy between all of my magazine formats. On my website I aim to show all representations in order to display different ethnicities, cultures, and people.


How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? 

To show convergence, both my website and print will contain the same masthead font, showing the brand's identity and logo. My website will include written articles that will be featured in the magazine's contents pages, as well as the images, which will also be featured on the social media platforms. Within the front covers and website, there will be a continuity of font, colours and layout in the contents pages. On the front covers, I will use a similar structure, using the same fonts, mastheads, labelling of tabs and featuring the same puffs. In a similar way, the contents pages will also have the same layout, images on the left-hand side with the articles numbered and labelled etc.
